What we do
The building works after fire, flood and storm
A reinstatement-specialist main contractor. We arrange and manage every trade under one building contract, check what is hidden behind the finish, and put everything back.
After a fire
Soot cleaned from voids before anything is sealed. Structure checked before rebuilding.
After a flood or leak
Dried to a measured target, with damp surveys at the start and the end.
After a storm
Roof, walls and structure made good, with building control where needed.
Moving out and back
Somewhere to stay, removals, storage and putting everything back.
Why Stormvale
Six reasons people choose a specialist
We arrange and manage every trade. You deal with one person.
Asbestos, structure, damp and electrics checked before anything is closed up.
Every survey, test and certificate in one handover file.
Moisture measured and logged until it reaches the target.
Somewhere to stay, removals, storage and put-back.
We price each job ourselves and we stand by our quote.
The difference
Refurbishment is not reinstatement
Both jobs can end with a new kitchen. Only one checks what the water or fire did behind it. Tap to compare.

This is no criticism of other builders. It is a different job.

Damp and mould: the hidden killer
What the government and the news say about what water leaves behind. Each link opens the original article.
Damp alone can make you ill
Government health guidance: damp and mould affect the airways and lungs, can cause serious illness and, in the most severe cases, death. Damp is a risk even where no mould can be seen.
Read the guidance › GOV.UK · 27 October 2025Awaab's Law is now in force
Social landlords in England must investigate significant damp and mould within 10 working days of being told, and fix emergency hazards within 24 hours.
Read the announcement › Environment Agency · 17 December 20246.3 million properties at risk of flooding
In England, 6.3 million properties are in areas at risk of flooding, and that could rise to around 8 million by the middle of the century.

Good to know
Do I need to go through my insurer?+
No. You can come to us direct, insured or paying yourself. We talk about the works, never the claim.
Do you deal with my insurance claim?+
No. Stormvale does the building works. Our staff will not tell you what your policy covers or what your claim is worth. If you need help with the insurance side, see the Claimify note below.
How do you know the building is dry?+
We start with a damp survey, drill and test as it dries, and finish with a damp survey to confirm it is dry. All of it goes in your file.
Can you help us move out?+
Yes. Temporary accommodation, removals, contents storage and put-back are arranged around the works.
How long will it take?+
Every job is different. The order of the checks is fixed; the time each stage takes depends on what we find.

What we do
Building works after fire, flood, leak, storm, impact and subsidence damage. For homeowners, landlords and businesses, insured or paying privately.
After a fire
Fire damage goes further than the room that burned. Soot and smoke travel into voids, ducts and rooms the fire never reached.
After a flood or leak
A wall can look dry and still be wet inside. We dry to a measured target, not a guess.
After a storm
Roof, walls and structure made good, with a structural assessment first and building control where needed.

After a fire
Fire damage goes further than the room that burned. Soot and smoke travel into voids, ducts and rooms the fire never reached.
What we do
Fire damage repairs, in order
- Make safe and survey. Structure checked, asbestos survey before anyone touches the house.
- Strip out. Burnt and smoke-damaged materials removed, contents catalogued.
- Decontaminate. Soot cleaned from voids, ducts and fabric as a stage of its own.
- Rebuild. Every trade under our contract, electrics tested before boxing in.
- Sign off and put back. Certificates issued, rooms finished, contents returned.
Why it matters
Painting over smoke staining seals in the smell and the residue. Fire also weakens joists and lintels, so the structure is checked before anything is rebuilt on it.
In your handover file
Asbestos survey, structural note, photographs of every cleaned void, electrical certificate, building control where it applies.
Every job is different. The order of the checks is fixed; the time each stage takes is not.

After a flood or leak
A wall can look dry and still be wet inside. We dry to a measured target, not a guess.
What we do
Flood and leak repairs, in order
- Damp survey first, so the drying goes where it is needed.
- Strip out what needs opening, and protect the boiler.
- Drying tests and drilling until the readings hit the target.
- Electrics tested before anything is boxed in; plumbing checked.
- Damp survey at the end, in writing, then rebuild and put back.
Why it matters
Sealed in behind new plaster, hidden damp and mould come back months later. The drying record is the proof that it was dry before the plasterers started.
In your handover file
Both damp surveys, the drying record, electrical certificate, plumbing and heating sign-off.
Every job is different. The order of the checks is fixed; the time each stage takes is not.

Home › What we do › After a storm
After a storm
Roof, walls and structure made good, with a structural assessment first and building control where needed.
What we do
Storm damage repairs, in order
- Make safe. Temporary protection to keep the weather out [if offered].
- Structural assessment of the roof, walls and anything that moved.
- Dry out what the rain reached, measured as it dries.
- Repair roof, walls and ceilings under one contract.
- Sign off with building control where it applies.
Why it matters
Water that came in through a damaged roof often sits in ceilings and insulation. It is found and dried before the ceiling is closed up again.
In your handover file
Structural note, drying record, building control sign-off where it applies, photographs before and after.
Every job is different. The order of the checks is fixed; the time each stage takes is not.

Moving out and back
Temporary accommodation, removals, contents storage and put-back, arranged around the works.
What we do
Out, stored and back
- Somewhere to stay while the works are done.
- Contents catalogued and photographed before anything moves.
- Removals before the works start.
- Storage for as long as the works take.
- Put back when the rooms are finished.
Why it matters
The building can only be put right properly once the rooms are empty. Moving out is part of the job, not something you organise on your own.
In your handover file
The contents inventory with photographs.

Home › What we check
The kitchen is the easy part
The wall behind it is the job. Water and soot travel into the parts of a house nobody sees. We check them before the house is closed up again.

Point 1 of 6
Roof and structure
What can go wrong
Storm and fire weaken timbers, lintels and joists. A new ceiling hung from a weakened roof only hides the problem.
What we do
A structural assessment before anything is rebuilt, and building control where it applies.
In your file: structural note and building control sign-off, where needed.
Point 2 of 6
Old ceilings and boards
What can go wrong
Textured coatings, older boards and floor tiles can contain asbestos. Cutting into them without knowing puts everyone in the house at risk.
What we do
An asbestos survey by an accredited surveyor before anyone touches the house. Licensed removal first if it is found.
In your file: the asbestos survey report.
Point 3 of 6
Wet walls and hidden damp
What can go wrong
A wall can look dry and still be wet inside. Sealed in behind new plaster, damp and mould come back months later.
What we do
A damp survey first, drying tests and drilling as it dries, then a damp survey at the end.
In your file: the drying record and both damp surveys.
Point 4 of 6
Electrics
What can go wrong
Water in a circuit or a back box is invisible once the wall is closed up.
What we do
An electrical test before boxing in, and again at the end.
In your file: the electrical certificate a buyer, lender or insurer will ask for.
Point 5 of 6
Boiler and plumbing
What can go wrong
The pipe that leaked is not the only weak joint. Dust and drying can damage the boiler.
What we do
Plumbing checked, the boiler protected through the drying and the works.
In your file: plumbing and heating sign-off.
Point 6 of 6
Floors and joists
What can go wrong
Water runs down and sits under floors. Soot from a fire travels into voids and ducts.
What we do
Floors lifted where needed, voids dried or cleaned before anything is sealed.
In your file: photographs of every opened void.
The checklist
Nine checks. Every job.
- Asbestos survey firstAn accredited surveyor before anyone touches the house. Licensed removal first if it is found.
- Structural assessmentJoists, lintels and floors checked before we rebuild on them.
- Method statements and risk assessmentsFor every job and every trade, on file before work starts.
- Drying tests and drillingReadings inside the fabric of the building, logged until they hit the target.
- Damp survey, start and endIn writing, so damp and mould do not come back through new plaster.
- Electrical test, before and afterWater in a circuit is found before it is boxed in. A certificate at the end.
- Plumbing checked, boiler protectedThrough the drying and the works.
- Decontamination after fireSoot cleaned from voids, ducts and fabric before anything is sealed.
- Building controlWhere it applies, sign-off obtained and kept on file.
A property with an unproven repair is devalued and can become hard to insure. A property with the certificates on the table is not.
Home › How a job runs
Every trade, in the right order
Surveyors check the site, every trade works to a method statement and risk assessment, and nothing is closed up until it has been tested and signed off.
- Survey. A surveyor visits and checks the site. Asbestos is checked before anyone touches the house.
- Plan and price. Method statements and risk assessments for each trade, and a schedule of works that we price ourselves.
- Strip out and dry. A damp survey first, so the drying goes where it is needed. We open up what needs opening and check it as it dries.
- Rebuild. Our authorised contractors rebuild under our contract, with a structural assessment and building control where needed.
- Test and sign off. Electrical test and certificate, plumbing checked, and a damp survey at the end to confirm it is dry.
- Put back. Contents back from storage, rooms refinished, the house and the handover file handed back to you.
How we know it is dry
Not a hand on the wall. A written record.
